Over the last few years motorcycle requirements have changed, you now have a choice which course you would like to take.
The type of course you decide will mainly depend on your age, it will also depend on when you applied for your driving licence even if or when you passed your car test.
In any event you must complete a Compulsory Basic Training course ( C.B.T ) first before you ride.
- If you are 16 years old you must have a provisional licence with category P entitlement.
- If you are 17 years old you must have a Full car or Provisional licence with category A entitlement.
- If you are 21 years old or turn 21 you may take a Direct Access or Accelerated Access course
THE THEORY TEST
From February 2001 all riders wishing to gain a full motorcycle licence will need to first pass the theory element before taking any practical test. This includes drivers already holding a full car licence.
Please Note: The theory test will be increased to 60 questions from April 2007 and the practical test will include additional elements from October 2008.
