The law states, to legally transport dangerous substances, above prescribed minimum levels in any vehicle, the driver MUST hold an ADR licence.
Approximately 100 million tonnes of dangerous goods are transported on our roads each year so this is why the utmost importance that drivers are competently trained.
The goods to be carried will need to be included on the drivers ADR licence. This will determine the level of training that a driver will require.
To gain this very important licence, drivers have to attend a training course and pass the SQA Examination.
We offer this training at our fully accredited training centres, or alternatively we can run courses at employers own premises as this can work out more cost effective for larger numbers.
Normally, ADR courses are run Monday to Friday as a 5 day course, but weekend or split courses can be arranged upon request. However, it is recommended that drivers train on consecutive days as the information is retained more easily & readily for the examination.
Every trainee will be required to undertake the CORE module, and either the PACKAGED or TANKERS module (or both) & at least 1 chemical class. There are 7 chemical classes in total, which can be taken. You can take them all, or alternatively just the ones required for the goods being transported.

It is possible to count certain elements of the ADR course towards the Drivers CPC Periodic Training Requirements. The maximum available is 21 hours for an initial course and 7 hours for a refresher course. The level of credit is dependant upon the elements taken from the ADR syllabus.
Unfortunatly the Tanker module is excluded as it is deemed to be a specialist subject area and thus will not map to the Driver CPC syllabus.
At Apex Training Services we have accredited our Driver CPC Periodic Training course in such a way that by attending the course and sitting through the course on specific days you will be able to credit CPC hours in varying degrees. You will not be required to take a full ADR to achieve credit towards the Periodic Training for Driver CPC.
Even Those who only require the tanks module will be able to credit some of their attendance towards their Driver CPC requirements. Also those taking a refresher course will be able to credit over 7 hours dependant upon the elements that they take.
The Two courses are totaly separate of each other but can be sat at the same time. As a company we have had to achieve additional accreditations and approvals for the courses that we offer. The requirements for Driver CPC differ to those of ADR and to meet the requirements we have had to adapt the course to satisfy both accrediting bodies.
Because the addition of the Driver CPC element is optional we have decided to offer the Driver CPC element of this course as an extra service.
Therefore, rather than just increasing the cost of the ADR course and including the Diver CPC irrelevant of your requirements we have chosen to keep our ADR course at the same cost and offer the Driver CPC Periodic Training as an optional extra at a cost that reflects the benefit that you recieve.
Remember the ADR certificate requires legaly required cou rse every 5 years. The Driver CPC card requires 35 hours of Periodic training every 5 yerars in order to keep up to date. For these periods the driver is unavailable for driving duties. By simply combining the two courses you are able to maximise the productivity of the driver by achievieng the equivalent of upto 6 days of training in 3 days.
The Driver CPC Periodic Training element is recorded in 1 day (7 hour) segments, dependant on your attendance. So our charge will depend on the number of days of the Driver CPC course that you attend. This fee will include Vat and the required registration fee.
